International Training Institute
Strengthening Women Peacebuilders Lagos, Nigeria 2018 and 2019 – two one-week training sessions 9 months apart with video conference coaching sessions monthly for trainees in between. Host Club: Rotary Club of Ikeja District 9110 International Club: Emmaus Rotary Club, District 7430Global Grant Title: International Training Institute for Women Peacebuilders from West Africa

Area of Focus: Peace and Conflict Resolution/Prevention

Geo Focus: Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Republic of Benin.

THE NEED: Conflicts whether inter or sub-national undermine economic development and humanitarian work. Additionally, trauma affects communities especially women and children who are the most vulnerable. The region has extraordinarily courageous women committed to peacebuilding, asking for support in the form of skill building in order to successfully impact these local conflicts. The needed skills will be identified by interviews and surveys of NGOs, and trainees.

GOAL: Strengthen the capacity of women to advance peacebuilding in conflict impacted communities.

OBJECTIVES: Hold a Rotary VTT-International Training Institute for 30 peace-builders, to receive 2 sessions of 5-day intensive training, 9 months apart, provided by world-class, culturally diverse trainers from Mediators Beyond Borders International. www.mediatorsbeyondborders.org

Coaching and training between sessions will support the sustainability outcome. This 5th ITI-VTT, will build on a growing International network of peacebuilders connecting to ITI alumni from South America, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia and Middle East/North Africa. At the request of the Host Club, a special training for local police will be included.

We are seeking trainees from the countries of Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Republic of Benin.

Knowledge and skills empower women to build networks, mobilize communities and transform dynamics. The training and experiences provided by Mediators Beyond Borders www.mediatorsbeyondborders.org addresses the critical needs of communities and nations impacted by conflict. Responding to the critical issues of the day, this experience empowers women to build vibrant, inclusive societies with sustainable peace and development.
