Event Overview: Engaging Rotarians In Global Violence Prevention

The role of Rotary International in the realm of peacebuilding is clear to academics and peace workers alike. Rotary is one of the largest service organizations in the world, and it is guided by the principles of advancing international understanding, goodwill and peace. Yet, for the purposes of preventing violence on many levels, the unique network of Rotarians is still underutilized.

In this workshop, Dr. Joseph Bock from the University of Notre Dame spoke about Rotary International’s unique infrastructure, which he considers the organization’s ‘crown jewel’ for preventing war and promoting peace. Dr. Bock examined how individual Rotarians can tap into their networks and contribute to violence prevention and peacebuilding. The Rotarian Action Group for Peace offered this workshop as an opportunity for Rotarians to understand their unique role and become directly involved in peacebuilding.

The workshop was hosted in Portland, Oregon and streamed online for Rotarians, Rotary clubs, Rotary Peace Fellow alumni and the Rotary Peace Centers to participate globally.
